That may not always be the case. Strength training is very different than weightlifting or body building. Weightlifting and bodybuilding can put too much strain on our young athletes affecting their tendons, muscles and growth plates. Lifting with heavy weights should wait until the growth plates close. Don't let that scare you though! You can definitely do some strength training (lifting with lighter weights, resistance bands or body weight).

Before you rush to pick up those free weights or bands, you need to make sure your technique is correct. Your technique is the most important part of strength training. Then comes more and more repetitions. Pretty soon you will be faster, stronger and more agile than all the other young athletes out there.
